Taking a few minutes to follow these tips will help you build brand equity and give you immediate creditability.

On October 25th Denise is partnering with award winning designer Janet Stevenson of Closet City and KCD Software to discuss “How To Create Award Winning Closet Designs and Storage Solutions.”

A Simple Social Media Strategy for 2013

getting social in 2013

This is the year, you know it’s important but you don’t have the time…

When you finally do sit down to begin your social media efforts you don’t know where to start – I know it’s frustrating and believe me you’re not alone!!! – Queue the theme song from X-Files…

Here are 5 tips to jump start your social media goals in 2013…

  1. Put it on the calendar. – Yes that’s right you need to create a schedule!  You wouldn’t blow off an appointment with a potential client so why blow off an opportunity to reach many potential clients… I find scheduling my social media efforts after hours allows me to be the most productive.
  2. Who is your audience? – Narrow your audience down and be as specific as possible.  That will make it easier to connect… Think about a networking event – is it easier to address the entire room or a small group of two or three people?
  3. Where does your audience hang out? – To get the most out of your efforts concentrate on the platforms that will lead to the most interaction with your potential customers.  Anyone in the closet or cabinet industry that is not on Houzz yet is really missing the boat!!
  4. Create content that is important to your audience. – You know who they are and where they hang out so now it’s time to create content that they care about.  Think about questions that you are asked throughout the week – can that be turned into a blog post?  Common problems that your customer faces – there’s another post… Put yourself in your customer’s shoes and show them how to organize them… Sorry bad closet joke, but I couldn’t resist.
  5. Interact with your audience. – As your audience grows they will begin to ask questions… This is the beginning of a sales call.  Respond honestly and quickly, ignoring these inquiries will have the opposite effect.

I hope this is the push you need to get started.  Pick a platform, get registered and begin getting social in 2013!

Using Facebook to Fill your Funnel…

I have to admit that in the beginning I was anti-Facebook… I couldn’t understand why I would want to know what someone that I knew 20 years ago was eating for dinner.

In the last 2 years I have completely changed my outlook on Facebook and social media – I hope after you read this you will too!

Facebook was the first social media platform that I used to build “The Mayor of Hardware” brand… With over 500 million users I was sure that I could find a few friends…

The first thing that I had to do was create my personal page… It took minutes and I have to admit that as I made connections there was a sense of satisfaction… Almost like the pulling the plastic off of that new iPhone for the first time, you can’t explain it but it’s a great feeling…

I use my personal page as “business casual” sure I am connecting with friends from my past, but I am also connecting with many customers and colleagues.  Getting a glimpse into their personal life solidifies our working relationship…

Next it was time to create my business page – this was equally as easy.  The main difference between the two is instead of adding friends I was adding “Likes.”

Once you reach 25 “Likes” be sure to create your vanity URL.  You must visit facebook.com/username to pick your name.  You only get make one shot so make it a good one!

If you don’t have a vanity URL you will look like a newbie…

The second thing that I did was create custom tabs…I know I just lost you – what’s a custom tab?

See screen shot below… Facebook allows you can create up to 12 custom tabs.  My tabs contain a sign up form, links to my blog, photos and links to my other social media platforms.  It allows people that find me on Facebook to see where else I am “hanging out” and hopefully they will join me.  This is another way for me to engage my clients.

The last thing that you have to do is show up regularly!  You should be sharing content at least a couple of times a week.  Funny works well on Facebook, be sure to mix it up – remember this isn’t about you, it’s about your audience.

Big Bold Tip Coming At You…

Please make sure to interact with anyone that comments on your photos or posts… This is social media – You Must Be Social!
