Are You Seeking Content Marketing Inspiration?  Did you know March was National Crafts Month?  I bet most of you have installed / organized a craft room.  Maybe you could post a weekly pic on your Facebook or Houzz page.  Maybe you could write a blog post about organizing craft rooms…

Mark Mitchell asks “Are men ready to reclaim their manhood through DIY?”  Could you take advantage of this trend?

This should be enough to keep you out of trouble.

Have a great weekend!!

How we can take advantage of the latest Facebook update…

Yes Facebook did it again…

Last week Facebook announced that if you tag another brand in your post – there is a possibility your post will show up in both your news feed as well as the brand that you tagged…

Here’s an example of one of my posts –

Take advantage of the latest Facebook UpateI tagged Rev-A-Shelf in this update and Facebook may show this to Rev-A-Shelf’s 2000 fans.

Think about how great this is –

You can cross promote with all of your suppliers and professional partners.

Tagging within the context of your post should have a better return than just adding a bunch of “tags” to the end of your update.

I want to put this new rule to the test –

Last week I posted a photo of a home office, it was one of my most viewed posts.

Take Advantage of Facebook's Latest UpdateUpload your home office photos and tag @TheMayorOfHardware – Let’s see if I can get you a few new Facebook likes this week… 🙂

As always if you have any questions or I can help in any way please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Thanks!

The Week in Review – 3/1/14

The Mayor week in Review

Good news only 19 days until Spring!

The bad news – it looks like we have another 6+ inches of snow starting tomorrow…

After we are all done stocking up on bread, milk and eggs – take some time to catch up on the stories that you might have missed… 🙂

Here are the highlights –

On Houzz –

Denise Butchko and I created an Ideabook at KBIS 2014.  “Kitchen Trends The Experts are saying are HOT, HOT, HOT”  This Ideabook is being shared on over 20 different profiles and if you would like to be a contributor or just have it show up on your page – include your email address in the comments below.

We thought this would be a great way to help our friends in the kitchen industry.

On Facebook –

This post received 5 times more views than any other post last week.  Turn Your Closet Into A Functional Home Office  Have you turned a closet into an office?  Do you have any photos?  Upload your pics to my Facebook page or tag me in your photos…

Facebook changed their rules again and this will benefit the both of us – Stay tuned more to come on this next week…

On Twitter –

How to Read a Business Book in Less than an Hour I haven’t tried this yet.  If anyone has, I would love to know if it works.

This should be enough to fill your snow day.

Have a great weekend.

Happy Shoveling!

What Can You Learn From FTD and 1800Flowers??

images

2 weeks ago was Valentines Day and the weather in the Northeast was terrible…

Snow and ice covered the roads for most of the day.

The problem was that FTD and 1800Flowers had promised their customers “guaranteed delivery.”

As you guessed many of those orders where late, flowers were dead or undelivered…

This led to a social media beat down from their customers… There were so many negative tweets that it was a story on the local news…

Here are a few of the unhappy tweets –

Peter Kim ‏@mrpeterkim  Feb 15 @ftdflowers a loyal customer for 6 years, this experience is making me rethink your services for future occasions.

KWH ‏@kwh1183  Feb 15 @ftdflowers no resolution as of 11:20 central. No flowers received and even got salt in the wound that delivery actually happened via email

patrick parks sr ‏@pjuansr72  Feb 15 @1800flowers @pjuansr72 was very disappointed being my first time ordering from you guys 4 my order not 2 show up at my wife work very upset.

kathlyn watson ‏@kathlynn_mariee  Feb 13 #1800flowers @1800flowers this is absolutely PATHETIC .. My fiancé who is overseas is mortified right now. #appauled pic.twitter.com/Cm5kfDHaVq

flowers

If you search Twitter today you will still find people complaining about their experience…

I know you’re sitting there saying that the customers are being unreasonable – the weather was out of your control…

I agree and I think most of your customers will agree also –

But and it’s a big BUT –

Your apology must WOW them… Turn this situation into an opportunity to shine.

Make the apology so AWESOME that your customers can’t wait to tell it…

The news report that night could have been about what a great company FTD or 1800Flowers is, rather than how they failed…

What do you do if something is backordered, you need to reschedule an installation or you have a service call?

You have a chance to do something memorable… Are you?

I would love to hear how…

The Mayor’s Best of KBIS/IBS 2014. You will love # 5…

20140204_120513I’m still recovering from 6 days in Vegas and boy was it worth it!

The show had about 75,000 attendees, the aisles were packed with people and the line at Starbucks was never less than a 30 minute wait…

I can’t remember the last show that had this much energy and excitement surrounding it.

Vendors were showing new products, consumers were spending money and everyone seemed optimistic about the economy.

Here are 5 of my favorite items –

Screen Shot 2014-02-13 at 9.59.04 AMGlidware.com is a brand new product that allows you to store pots and pans vertically.  How many of you have pots in a drawer that are all stacked on top of one another?  This makes accessing your pots really easy.  Also could be used to hang mops or brooms in a pantry…

Screen Shot 2014-02-13 at 10.05.32 AMThe Docking Drawer is a solution to your countertop clutter.  My family of 5 we has phones, tablets, and iPods all over the counter.  This gets everything in a drawer and out of the way.

Screen Shot 2014-02-13 at 10.11.58 AMRev-A-Shelf’s universal pull down allows the contents of your upper cabinet to be brought down to you.  No longer will you need a step stool to reach the upper shelves.  The removable acrylic bins give everything a place to keep your cabinet organized.

20140205_112248-bAbove is a picture that I took with my phone.  It’s Atlas Hardware’s new brass finish.

This shade of brass was all over the show floor – from faucets to handles.

Brass has gained momentum over the last year.  Women are wearing gold jewelry, watches and many leading designers are including brass on their products… How many Michael Kors bags does your wife own??

I really like it and think that we are going to see more of it.

Screen Shot 2014-02-13 at 12.14.24 PMThis was one of my favorites – Brewcave.com

I’m trying to convince my wife to buy me one for Valentine’s Day.  It’s basically a walk-in beer closet – with a TAP!

Where you at KBIS?

Which products or trends did you like?

It was such a busy show I’m sure that I missed something…

Looking forward to your comments!
