What’s New What’s Next 2017

Last week Richelieu partnered with Transform to participate in the New York Design Center’s 9th annual What’s New What’s Next event. This is the most anticipated interior design event of the season with over 80 participating showrooms featuring the latest ideas, materials and products.

When it comes to what’s new and what’s next one of the hottest design trends is “Micro Living and the Evolution of the Multifunctional Space”

Richelieu is the leader in this space – all 350 square feet of it… 🙂

We offer a product line that allows architects and builders to maximize every inch, while allowing designers to make it a place that people want to entertain in.

Micro living and multifunctional space becomes very exciting when you take those solutions and apply them to overall design. Give a homeowner a more functional home without having to add an addition and watch how quickly your conversation changes from a price negotiation to what else can you do for them.

The sleeping area has the biggest impact on micro living. You need the ability to create bed, sofa, desk and wall unit combinations. These aren’t your parent’s murphy beds that ensured visitors didn’t stay too long.

This is the new generation of folding bed systems that are designed with pistons for easy and safe opening and closing.   They are designed with wood slats and can accommodate a 12” mattress – made for every night sleeping.

Other products include our pull out tables that can be a place to eat or prep food in the kitchen, a folding table in a laundry room, a place to pack your suitcase in a closet or a desk in the family room.   My favorites are Naxo of Cheo.

Living in a micro unit is great but can you entertain?

You sure can with these adaptable furniture pieces. Here are the newest tables to hit the US market – Okey Dokey, Falco, and Butterfly.  These tables magically transform to create seating for 6.

What about the closets?

Our Vertiko floating shelf hardware is great for room dividers and keeps with the design of micro. We also have rotating shoe shelves, and a clothing organizer that can put 10’ of clothing in a 5’ x 30” space.

  • Bella Systems Revolving Shoe Rack

  • Royal Cabinets Rotating Clothing Rack

Small Spaces, Packed with Profits.

Small Spaces, Tiny Homes, Micro-Living – call it what you want this movement is a huge opportunity for our industry.

For years we have preached the value of an organized closet.

“Increase the quality of your life, Start your day stress free.”

Micro-Living takes design to the next level – Can you create a 400 square foot room with a living space, a bedroom, a kitchen table that seats 6 and don’t forget the closets… 🙂

Your years of design experience will be tested but Richelieu is here to help.

We have a complete program of hardware made for the Small Spaces trend.

Your design starts with our Multifunctional Beds. Our beds can hide behind a couch, double as a workstation and includes a metal frame with wooden slats just like conventional beds.

With this product you can turn any living space into a bedroom – a must when it comes to Micro-Living.

The next step in any good design is room for entertaining. Nobody wants to eat standing up. Richelieu stocks a complete line of transforming and pull out tables.

For small gatherings we have our NAXO Pull Out Table. This can also act as a folding table in a laundry room or a place to pack your suitcase in a large closet.

NAXO Pull Out Table

Our Butterfly Table unfolds to a 6’ dinning table.

The Surprise Table transforms from a 20” console table to a 6’ dinning table. This table is perfect no matter the size of your home. Visit Richelieu.com to be surprised!

For a Micro unit to truly function well it needs adequate storage.

Growing up in Brooklyn my mother would store her shoes in the oven – Who knew she was on the cutting edge of urban living.   🙂

Our Panasonic shoe rack comes in two sizes and can hold up to 80 pairs of shoes in a 30” wide section!

These are only a handful of the items that Richelieu has brought in to help you be the expert in Small Space Design.

Don’t ignore this movement – typically the people living in these Micro Units are affluent city dwellers. When they settle down, start a family and move to the suburbs who do you think they will call to design their closets?

You are creating a customer for life!

Time To Reset?

Most of us reset every January… We start eating healthier, living life to the fullest or getting organized –  but what about your business?

When was the last time you audited your website, daily systems or hardware options?

Now is the perfect time to get your company ready for the busy Spring season.

Do the pictures on your website need to be updated?  That’s an all caps YES if the monitor in your home office photo is 20″ deep.

Are you constantly showing up to installs and the floors aren’t ready?  That’s a major sign that your system needs to be changed.

Do you have a hardware supplier that doesn’t care about your success?  Show you new products?  Value your business?  It might be time to look at your options.

Yes Richelieu stocks the trendiest hardware and Italian melamine on the market, but we also have all of your standard closet hardware.

From closet poles and jewelry trays to wall rails and hanging brackets we have everything that you use.

Unlike other distributors, most of the hardware we sell we manufacture ourselves.  You are buying direct which saves you money.

If you haven’t taken the time to get to know Richelieu yet, send me an email or reach out to your local rep.  We will explain how we can be a valued business partner.

3 Things to Think About This Week

Santa Closet

Ready or not the holidays start tomorrow – today for some of you.

I truly appreciate all of your attention this year – whether you are a long time follower or a new one.

Thank you for spending a few minutes each week reading and sharing my posts!!

With the finish line in sight – I thought today would be a great day to share 3 questions that you can think about while sitting in holiday traffic or watching Christmas Eve Football. (What is better than that!)

What did you accomplish this year?

Take a minute to enjoy your wins.  Did you finally get that additional truck on the road?  Purchase that new machine, update your website?  It’s ok to brag a little!! 🙂

What slowed you down?

Is there something or someone causing you constant pain?  A difficult employee or business partner.  Come up with a plan to fix that next year.

What are some goals for next year?

List 3 – 5 things that you would like to get done.  Is it increasing marketing, updating your showroom, or adding a new product line?  Write the list down and keep it on your desk this way next year that list can be moved to accomplishments!  You know I love helping you succeed – let me know what I can do.

In case you missed this – here are my top two posts from 2016 –

Successful Closet Companies are Doing This – Are You?

Part II – Successful Closet Companies are Doing This

Thank you for your loyalty and support this year.

Happy Holidays to you and your family!

I can’t wait to see what 2017 has in store!!

New Vertiko Closet System In Stock…

Vertiko Wall System

Many of you have asked me about the “closet without verticals” or the “European Closet System.”  It’s in stock just in time for you to freshen up your showroom for the new year.

It’s something that you should definitely be showing because if you haven’t been asked for a system like this yet – you will be soon.

The Vertiko Closet System has a short learning curve and is pretty easy to install.

There’s plenty of adjustment built into the stanchions to follow the bows in the wall and the slope of the floor.  We have brackets for cabinets, shelves, closet rods and every combination.

This short video will show you how easy it is –

This is also a great system for entertainment centers because you can easily hide the wires behind the back panels.

If you have questions or need more technical info please email me at RDeMarco@richelieu.com.

Thanks!
